5. Owen Hargreaves vs Arsenal, April 2008
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAJqOBFTWWk While Owen Hargreaves was certainly not an 'ordinary' player and does not belong in the same class as the likes of Chris Eagles, Darren Gibson and David Bellion, it is universally acknowledged that his time at Old Trafford was a disaster. Labelled as one his 'biggest disappointments' by former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, Hargreaves' injury problems ultimately destroyed any semblance of a career he may have forged at Manchester United. However, despite the persistent injury woes, and frustrations aplenty, there will be one moment that sticks that in the minds of Manchester United supporters, and that cannot be robbed from the former Bayern Munich midfielder. Embroiled in a three-pronged race for the title, Arsenal arrived at Old Trafford three points behind second-placed Chelsea and six point behind their Mancunian counterparts. This was the game Arsene Wenger needed to win, if the Gunners were to end a four year wait for the title. On the other hand, should Manchester United win, they would go six points clear at the top of the table with just three games remaining. Following Emmanuel Adebayor's opener, Cristiano Ronaldo levelled matters with a sumptuous penalty before the stage was set for Hargreaves' finest hour. With just 20 minutes remaining, the electric atmosphere threatened to spill out into the Greater Manchester Area, as Hargreaves' curled a beautiful 25 yard free-kick over the wall and into Jens' Lehmann bottom right-hand corner.
