10 Memorable Man United Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

4. Diego Forlan vs Liverpool, December 2002

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3zyG8cWKTc Diego Forlan is not an 'ordinary' player - far from it. In fact, he is probably one of the most talented players to have pulled on the famous red strip in the last ten years, as evidenced by his impeccable goal-scoring record in La Liga and his Golden Ball award at the 2010 World Cup. It just simply didn't work out for him at Old Trafford, for whatever reason. With just ten strikes in 63 appearances, that statistic is a waste of time for a player of Forlan's ilk, but he did give Man United supporters a couple of moments to savour. While there were open goal misses for supporters to tear their hair out, there was incidences of him playing on without a shirt for them to smile at, but above all, what endeared him most was his brace against the enemy in December 2002. In two minutes the game was over, as Diego Forlan struck in both the 65th and 67th minutes to well and truly silence Anfield and send the away support into a frenzy. It was due to the calamity of Polish goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek as he fumbled a Jamie Carragher header between his legs, allowing the Uruguayan the simple task of tapping into an open net. The second was all down to the class of the South American, however, as he picked up a pass on the edge of the box, advanced and blasted a ferocious shot into the top corner. He may not have done much during his time at Old Trafford, but that match-winning brace at Anfield means it was probably worth all the frustrations, tears and tantrums at his near misses, open goals and profligacy.
