Former Liverpool and Barcelona star Javier Mascherano is a player who requires no introduction. The 34-year-old has been one of the most successful players on the planet over the last decade, winning La Liga five times, the Champions League twice, and helping his nation to a World Cup final in 2014.

The 34-year-old's best days are behind him and he's playing out the twilight years of his career in China, but he remains a very impressive and important defender for the national side. Right now, he's tied with Javier Zanetti as Argentina's most-capped player of all time, so will surely claim the record as his own this summer when the group games get started.

Capable of playing as both a central defender and defensive midfielder, Mascherano is comfortable on the ball and reads the game well, getting stuck in with tough tackles and offering a decent aerial presence despite his relatively short height.
