One of six players in the Panama squad to have over 100 caps to his name, Gabriel Gómez is the most experienced man in the team and is also his nation's most-capped player of all time. Panama have quite an old squad and will be banking on experienced footballers like Gómez to lead the way.

The 34-year-old defensive midfielder has enjoyed a varied club careeer, rarely staying at any one club for too long and playing in several countries including the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Portugal, and others. He currently turns out for Colombian side Atlético Bucaramanga.

At national level, Gómez has appeared 144 times for his country, scoring 12 goals in total, including a key strike against the United States during World Cup qualification that helped his side reach the tournament at the expense of the Americans. Panama are expected to struggle at their first ever World Cup but the older players like Gómez will be doing their level best to help the team at least earn a point or two in the group games.
