10 Most Expensive Chelsea Transfer Flops

3. Shaun Wright-Phillips (£21 Million)

Shaun Wright-Philips was on fine form for Manchester City when he signed for Chelsea in 2005 for a reported £21 million, just after the clubs first Premier League triumph. In a similar vein to Scott Parker, the player's momentum was hindered by the sudden lack of playing time and the fact that he would be constantly kept out of the first team by Arjen Robben. £21 million is a lot of money to pay for someone who keeps the bench warm and he didn't suit being brought on as a game-changing substitute. In his first season at Chelsea he only started fifteen games for the club and he only lasted two more years at Stamford Bridge before he was shown to the exit door, being sold back to Manchester City for a lot less money than they paid for him.
