One of the most controversial sports stars of the modern age, LeBron's decision to abandon his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and join the title-contending Miami Heat attracted widespread derision. The manner in which he announced the trade - at the culmination of an hour-long TV special entitled 'The Decision - left an even sourer taste in the mouth, as did the Heat's raucous welcoming party. In his first interview alongside fellow Heat stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, James promised a boatload of championships, boastfully predicting "not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven". He ultimately settled for two, before returning to Cleveland in the summer of 2014.
