10 Most-Pointless Newcastle Signings In The Premier League Era

9. Michael Bridges

Newcastle United: 2004 Nationality: English Position: Forward Signed: January 2004 Fee: Loan (from Leeds United) Appearances (Goals): 6 (0) No-one is really sure why Michael Bridges was recruited to the Newcastle United side by Sir Bobby Robson in January 2004. Cash-strapped Leeds United were going through a firesale and the crocked striker was snapped up by the Magpies on loan - yet he made just six appearances due to injury and loss of form. Newcastle had the likes of Alan Shearer, Lomana Lua Lua, Shola Ameobi and Craig Bellamy still on their books - and, even though they were affected by injuries, the recruitment of Bridges seemed bizarre. Unsurprisingly his loan spell was not extended.
