10 Most Under-Rated Newcastle Players Ever

10. Paul Kitson

Newcastle United: 1994-97 League Appearances: 36 League Goals: 10
Paul Kitson arrived at Newcastle from Derby County for a fee of £2.5 million in September 1994 and he proved to be a hit. Originally back-up to Andy Cole and Peter Beardsley, when the former departed for Manchester United in January 1995 Kitson became a first-choice centre forward and finished the campaign with eight goals from 26 matches. Les Ferdinand's arrival the following year - and then the signing of Faustino Apsrilla - shunted Kitson back down the pecking order and he played just seven league games in 1995-96, scoring twice. Eventually he moved to West Ham United for £2.3 million and, although he was hardly the most-prolific striker, Kitson's pace and ability in front of goal was under-appreciated. Certainly a decent Premier League striker, but he is rarely mentioned by Newcastle supporters (perhaps understandably considering the forward talent to pull on a black-and-white-striped shirt down the years).
