Another player whose injury troubles and poor domestic form have seem him ousted from the national side, Lallana can feel a little aggrieved to be left out of the World Cup, having scored a couple of goals and played well during qualification.

He's only played a handful of minutes for Liverpool since the start of 2018 but, at the age of 30, this was probably one of his last chances of appearing at a major tournament for his country, and it's a shame to see that England's Player of the Year for 2016 has fallen out of favour so quickly. He is, however, on Southgate's stand-by list, so could still be called up if another player pulls out.

One of England's most consistent and versatile performers, Lallana is capable of playing in multiple positions and has often demonstrated a real sense of pride at pulling on the shirt of the national side. If he does end up in the final squad, his experience could prove beneficial to the younger players.
