2. Giorgos Katidis - Life Ban (From Internationals)
Youtube.comThere are certain things in football (and indeed life) that should never be condoned, and that goes for incidents that blur the boundaries between sport, entertainment and real life; Giorgos Katidis' ban back in 2013 is one such incident. Katidis is a 21-year-old midfielder who, at the age of 17, burst through onto the Greek football scene with some style, and was immediately touted as a star of the future for the national team. In the space of little over two years, he made 30 appearances for the Greek under-19's side, going on to play for the under-21's shortly after - as well as Greek giants AEK Athens, but thanks to an incident whilst playing for that side that would cause him to be banned from all international games for the rest of his career. Katidis scored the winning goal for AEK in a Greek league encounter against Veria, but celebrated in highly controversial fashion - giving a Nazi salute to celebrate. He claimed afterwards he didn't know the connotations of the gesture, simply indicating he was pointing to a colleague in the crowd to celebrate scoring the goal, but the Greek FA refused to let the incident go unpunished - and they banned Katidis from playing for any Greek national side ever again.
