Tony Popovic played for Crystal Palace between 2001 and 2006 after signing from Japanese side Sanfrecce Hiroshima. As commanding centre back, Australian international Popovic quickly became first choice centre back and played in Palace's 1-0 Play-off final win over West Ham in 2006. Popovic played over 120 games for Palace before leaving to play in Qatar. Popovic also has the dubious honour of scoring one of the greatest own-goals ever after back-heel-flicking the ball into the top corner of the net from six yards out against Portsmouth in 2004. Despite this he remains a fan favourite and was mooted as a possible replacement when Tony Pulis left in 2014. Since his retirement, Popovic has enjoyed a successful managerial career, winning the Asian Champions League for Western Sydney Wonderers
