European Champion Bruno Alves goes into this World Cup as one of Portugal's most experienced players, with an impressive tally of 95 caps under his belt in an international career that has spanned over a decade. He's actually the sixth most-capped player of all time for Portugal and would love to reach the 100-cap mark this summer, at what will surely be his final tournament appearance.

Currently plying his trade for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, the 36-year-old defender is well into the twilight years of his playing career but has always been a solid and dependable performer for Portugal, contributing with 11 goals over the years and assisting the squad during the qualification process.

Portugal's central defensive options are mostly older players, with 35-year-old Pepe and 34-year-old José Fonte also being called up to the squad, and head coach Fernando Santos will be hoping that the experience of Alves and his fellow defenders will give the nation a chance of pulling off another impressive tournament run after their somewhat unexpected but well-deserved triumph at Euro 2016.
