At 39 years of age, Rafael Márquez finds himself in a very unique position; he technically retired from club football at the end of the latest domestic season, which he spent with Mexican club Atlas, but has still been called up for the World Cup, where he plans on playing his last ever professional football matches.

It's certainly an impressive and fitting way for the veteran to bow out, having earned an astonishing 143 caps for the national side in an international career that has spanned over two decades. Regarded by fans as one of Mexico's greatest all-time players, Márquez's talent is undeniable, with the Mexican midfielder having spent several years at Monaco and Barcelona.

A highly technical and creative player, the 39-year-old participated at the 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups, captaining the side every single time, and it'll surely be a very emotional moment for all Mexican fans and players when his wonderful career reaches its end this summer.
