Arsenal Transfers: 10 Players Wenger Should Have Signed

10. William Carvalho

It felt like Sporting Lisbon€™s defensive midfielder was caught in an awkward three-way love triangle with Arsenal and Manchester United throughout the summer transfer window. Rather surprisingly, neither of the Premier League€™s big boys ended up with the combative CDM and will now have to limp through to January having failed to address one of their biggest problems €“ the middle of the park. Whispers suggest that right up until 11pm on Monday, Le Professeur was trying to bring the Portugal international to the Emirates with a final offer of ‚16million plus Joel Campbell rejected - and ‚30million was the figure the Portuguese club were holding out for.

At 22 years of age, Carvalho is only just starting to make a name for himself in football. Therefore, this will be the first of many transfer windows that the defensive midfielder will be linked with a move to a club in the upper echelons of the beautiful game.
