10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Spurs
6. Sergei Rebrov
Sergei Rebrov was hardly a youngster when Spurs signed him for £11 million in the year 2000 - he was one month away from being 26 years old - but, bearing in mind the fact that he had spent his previous years playing in the Ukrainian league for Dynamo Kiev, you would expect him to improve playing amongst better players and in the much higher standards of the Premier League. Also, when you look at what his former strike partner - Andrei Shevchenko - went on to achieve after making a move to a better league, you'd think he'd be able to emulate that. Wrong. He played 59 Premier League games for Spurs, 37 of which were from the start, but he only scored ten league goals - meaning every single goal cost Spurs more than one million pounds. His time at Spurs saw him twice loaned out to Turkish side Fenerbahce and he eventually went on to sign for Spurs inferior Premier League rivals West Ham United, for free, in 2004 (where he made even less of an impression). For someone anticipated to take Europe by storm after honing his skills in a notoriously productive Dnyamo Kiev youth system, this was highly disappointing.
