10 Players You Didn't Know Bolton Nearly Signed

8. Wilfried Zaha

It's fair to say the jury is still very much out on Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha. Having shone for Crystal Palace during their 12/13 promotion-winning Championship campaign in which he drew comparisons to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and bagged a £15 million move to Manchester United, he has been remarkably disappointing ever since. Having failed to threaten the Red Devils starting XI, he was farmed out on loan to Cardiff City where he was similarly average, and is now back at Selhurst Park on another loan in a bid to recapture a seemingly-faded spark. However, just before Zaha sealed his blockbuster move to Manchester United in January 2012, it was their mid-west neighbours who almost lured him away from Crystal Palace, tabling a £7 million bid for the 19 year old winger. It was an offer that was never going to be accepted by the London club's chairman, Steve Parish.
''I don't think it is to the value that the Crystal Palace chairman wants. But it is an offer we felt was fair for a very talented young player. I always put what I think is a fair value on a player and if we get to it, great.'' - Owen Coyle, January 2012.
