10 Players You Didn't Know Nearly Signed For AC Milan

2. Alessandro Del Piero

Not quite a one-club man like Francesco, as he has had spells at Calcio Padova, Sydney FC and Delhi Dynamos, but his 19 year stint in Turin has cemented his undoubted legendary status. While Totti was, and still is, an absolutely breathtaking player, it takes a footballer of extraordinary skill and talent to last almost two decades at a club of the magnitude of Juventus, with titles and trophies at stake. With eight league championships, a Champions League and a World Cup amongst his legions of silverware, and 208 Serie A goals plundered in 513 appearances, Del Piero was incredible. It could have been all so different for the Stadio del Alpi legend, however, with Milan having been close to sealing a deal for the player in 1993 before his switch to Turin.
''We nearly signed Del Piero in 1993 and failing to do that remains one of the great regrets of my career. The fact remains that before he went to Juve, Milan were interested in the player.۪۪ - Adriano Galliani, October 2011.
When Galliani made the admission, Milan were accredited with an interest in the player they had missed out on 18 years earlier, with the Italian having announced that he wouldn€™t sign an extension with the Turin giants. However, Juventus€™ highest-capped player was never going to wear the colours of another Italian side and swapped Europe for an adventure in Australia with Sydney FC.
