Jermain Defoe has been signed by Harry Redknapp so many times, it would almost have seemed rude not to go back and work for him for a fourth time. It seemed that Defoe was the only person in the country who thought that moving to Toronto earlier this year would enhance his World Cup chances, when in reality it only furthered the theory of out of sight-out of mind for England boss Roy Hodgson. At 31 years old, the clinical frontman has surrendered his talents to the MLS far too early, and is still a very capable Premier League frontman. With QPR locked in talks with Defoe's representatives on transfer deadline day, they were unable to thrash out a loan deal for the hitman in time, but Redknapp remains confident that he will soon be reunited with the striker who lashed 214 goals in 524 appearances in the English game.
''Jermain wanted to come. We were hoping to get him. We agreed a deal with Toronto but it was difficult for them to release them. They are looking to get in the playoffs so we didn't want to disrupt their club or anything else so we moved on. There is every chance he will come in January. I'm a big fan of Jermain's. Almost certainly, I think we will go back in for him.'' - Harry Redknapp, September 2014.
