For six months, Papiss Cisse was the most lethal striker in the Premier League. To think of it now is a laughable prospect, but when Newcastle signed the former SC Freiburg striker, he plundered 13 goals in his first 14 appearances, including that sumptuous screamer at Stamford Bridge. His second season was a significant let-down, as he mustered just eight goals in 36 league appearances, but last season was when the Geordie faithful lost complete faith in their former talisman. Just two goals were summoned throughout the entire of the league campaign one of them a penalty in a 5-1 rout of 9-man Stoke City. At this stage, the early 2012 purple patch must surely have been just that. With his confidence at an all-time low, and seemingly bereft of any goalscoring instinct, there is surely no way back for the Senegalese hitman. The Geordie faithful have finally lost patience. The Number 9 on Tyneside is supposed to score goals. The longer he continues to embarrass himself every other Saturday afternoon, the more Mike Ashley will wish for some of that £9 million pounds back in his pocket.
