10 Players Newcastle Were Mad To Let Go

The Magpies surely regretted allowing these players to find pastures new...

Newcastle United have just released two of their most-senior players after their contracts expired. Not only were Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Taylor treated with contempt by the club, they were both released over the phone. What's more, while he was talking to interim head coach Carver and receiving the bad news, Taylor was then asked to hand the mobile over the Gutierrez - only for the man who had only recovered from cancer months previously to be informed that he was being released via someone else's phone. Not only will the Magpies come to regret the way in which they have released two players who have always given their all to Newcastle United Football Club, they may even come to wish they had not allowed Gutierrez in particular to leave. Although he may not be the most-gifted footballer to grace the St James' Park pitch over the years, Guiterrez always gave his all in a black-and-white shirt - and he always performed on the big occasion, most notably providing an assist and a goal during the Magpies' final-day 2-0 victory over West Ham United to ensure their Premier League survival during the 2014-15 season. In a few years' time, Newcastle may regret releasing Gutierrez during a crucial summer for the football club - but which other players have the Magpies come to lament allowing to move on? Well, here are 10 players Newcastle United were mad to allow to leave the club.
