Despite now playing for Bayern Munich and impressing during Germany's run to the World Cup final, Jerome Boateng once spent a bitterly-disappointing 12 months at Manchester City between 2010-11, arriving from Hamburger in a £10.4 million deal. The full-back only made 16 appearances for the Citizens, however, and failed to make any sort of impact during his brief time at the Etihad. The odd thing is, however, that Boateng has since gone on to make a name for himself at Bayern, and was one of the stand-out performers during the World Cup final. Sadly, despite going on to have a successful spell in Germany, he never adapted to the English game, and was not even named in the matchday squad for the 2011 FA Cup Final, which City won after beating Stoke. Growing discontented with his limited first team playing potential in Manchester, Boateng announced his desire to leave the club in 2011. Bayern saw something City hadn't, and swooped him up. The defender has since gone on to win two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Munich, and he will know better than most that he should have stayed in Germany.
