2. Fabio Cannavaro
Daniel Leiva/AP/Press Association ImagesFabio Cannavaro's decision to leave Real Madrid and rejoin Juventus in 2009 was such a bad call that it made the veteran defender a pariah in the footballing community. Cannavaro had two spells at Juve, either side of his stay at Real and, when his contract ran down, he decided to rejoin the Italian club. Unfortunately, the Old Lady's fans had never forgiven him for leaving them to join Real in the first place, and upon his return, the centre-back was forced to deal with simmering hostilities from the stands. In a Europa League tie against Fulham in March 2010, Juventus, who won the first leg 3-1, were 1-0 up at Craven Cottage. Things were looking good for the Serie A side, until Cannavaro accumulated two yellow cards, got sent off, and Juventus capitulated 4-1 and were eliminated on aggregate. It was the final straw for Cannavaro. The fans used him as a scapegoat, and Juve refused to renew his contract at the San Siro. When the Italy international tried to orchestrate his next career move, to Napoli, the Naples side would have nothing to do with him and he wound up playing for Al-Ahli before retiring in 2011.
