Joe Cole left West Ham at the end of our 2003 season of relegation. He joined Frank Lampard at Chelsea and enjoyed a good run of first team action. Slowly but surely, he was edged out and became nothing more than a fringe player, and through his transfer to Liverpool, this became almost a permanent role for him for the rest of his career. He made a return to West Ham in 2013 and showed glimpses of his former self much to fans delight, however this just highlighted the fact that Joe Cole could've made himself a real West Ham legend had he stayed.
