10 Players Who Should Regret Turning Down Man Utd

9. Steven Gerrard

The Reds skipper revealed he rejected the chance to play for United on more than one occasion, because he couldn't bear betraying the Kop. "I went on trial at Manchester United when I was 13 and had a letter off them wanting to sign me on a seven-year-deal," Gerrard once said. Instead, he stayed at Anfield and the Red Devils soon came calling once more. "He tried to sign me in early 2002/2003, he tried to sign me again to play for United, I obviously refused, so I can€™t really take it to heart too much. But I€™m a bit gutted because I€™m a big fan of his." You can understand Gerrard's reluctance to turn his back on Liverpool to play in the red of United instead, considering the pandemonium that would cause. But had he done so, he would surely have won more than the three League Cups, two FA Cups and one Champions League crown he has at Anfield. On the final day of last season, Gerrard's attempt to win his first ever Premier League title was dashed by Manchester City. He would have won it at their derby rivals.
