10 Players Relieved They Didn't Sign For Arsenal

5. Petr Cech

What a world it would have been had Petr Cech signed for Arsenal in 2004 as was expected. There would have been no constant bickering in the Arsenal camp between Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia, Arsenal defenders might have played with more confidence knowing what a cool pair of hands stood behind them, and Cech probably would never have had to wear that scrum cap.
''Before I went to Rennes I was watched by Arsenal but when I couldn۪t get a work permit, the situation was missed. And at the last minute, I think the person who was the chief scout at Arsenal didn۪t think I was good enough for the English league. So in the end it didn۪t happen.۪۪ - Petr Cech, March 2011.
What was Arsenal€™s loss was certainly Chelsea€™s gain, as the Blues subsequently snapped him up in July 2004. Cech has gone on to establish himself as one of the best keepers in world football, despite having to contend with a potentially life-threatening collision with Irishman Stephen Hunt in 2006. Having won three league titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, a Europa League and a Champions League, the Czech shot-stopper will feel that his trophy haul during the last decade certainly dwarfs Arsenal€™s two FA Cups.
