10 Players Relieved They Didn't Sign For Liverpool
10. Gabriel Heinze
Gabriel Heinze treated the summer of 2007 playing the role of a star-crossed lover, pining for the Champions League finalists in Merseyside. Having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, the Argentine left-back was well within his rights to seek pastures new, but threatening to take his employers to court to force through a move to their fiercest rivals was not the smartest move for his PR. Heinze was understandably vilified and harangued by sections of the Red Devil support, who couldnt accept the treacherous and cantankerous actions, as he effectively erased his cult hero status at the club. However, following the 29 year olds decision to bring the case to a Premier League arbitration panel, the case was thrown out - leaving the Argentine in an extremely uncomfortable position with the clock ticking down towards the close of the transfer window. Luckily for the ill-advised left-back, he was rescued from a campaign of inevitable hell at Old Trafford by the illustrious giants of the Santiago Bernabeu as Manchester United accepted a bid from Real Madrid for his services. Liverpool would fail to scale the heights of their European success again, while Heinze would add a La Liga winners medal and a Supercopa de Espana to his collection during a brief but enjoyable two-year stint in Spain.
