10 Players Steve McClaren Could Bring With Him To Newcastle

Much thought-after at West Bromwich Albion, George Thorne was allowed to move to Derby County last summer for £2.6 million having failed to consistently break into the Baggies' first team on a regular basis. Loan spells at Portsmouth, Peterborough United, Watford and Derby had brought decent performances and the 20-cap England Under-19 international was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. A cruciate knee-ligament injury wrecked his 2014-15 season, but McClaren is known to be a keen admirer of the 22-year-old midfielder. At 6ft 2in he is tall and powerful - but also has bags of energy and an efficient passing technique - and he became West Brom's youngest-ever senior representative back in 2010. That talent has not dissipated, even if injuries have hinted its development, and McClaren could decide to sign Thorne once more.
