10 Players Who Must Regret Joining Rangers

9. Alan Gow

Once a promising young striker on the fringes of the Scottish national squad, Alan Gow was viewed as exactly the kind of player Walter Smith could work with. Signing Gow from Falkirk for free in 2007, it seemed that Smith could bring out the best in the young attacking midfielder. Unfortunately, things didn't pan out that way, and Gow only made 4 first team appearances. For some reason, management just didn't think he was ready to stake a claim in the senior squad. This was a source of much confusion for fans, because Rangers have endeavored to pay money for the player in the January transfer window, eventually settling on a Summer free transfer. After a year of toiling without many games, Gow signed on loan with Blackpool, where it was reasoned he could regain his form. In a way, this was simply Smith removing the midfielder from his purgatory at Rangers. No games and 100% training don't do much for a player's morale, and there were even rumours of cocaine addiction during Gow's time at the club. These allegations weren't met with any real evidence, but it was clear that the man was far from happy at Ibrox. Going from a promising young player to one frozen out in the cold can't have pleased him.
