10 Players Who Must Regret Joining Rangers

3. Duncan Ferguson

Duncan Ferguson is the perfect example of what might have been for Glasgow Rangers. Signed from Dundee United in 1993 for around £4 million, the strapping big striker had all the tools Walter Smith was looking for in his side. Looking for another option to aid both Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley in attack, Ferguson seemed ideal. Unfortunately for both player and club, injuries and poor form contributed to making 'Big Dunc' an Ibrox disaster. Standing 6ft 4in, many thought the player would be revelation in blue, but he was instead often found missing in key games. A moody character, something fans of both Everton and Newcastle United would find out, Ferguson also found himself in trouble with the law. During a match against Raith Rovers, the striker head-butted an opponent. He was merely booked at the time, but he was then retrospectively jailed for assault, spending 3 months in prison. Serving his time after he had left Rangers, Duncan Ferguson couldn't live up to his billing, and that would prove to be a hallmark of his career. It was clear that the man needed more time development and mature, and that maybe the move to Rangers wasn't right for him.
