Only spending less than a full season at Rangers, former Russian internationalist Oleg Salenko was often regarded as lazy by fans. At the 1994 World Cup, Salenko was the joint winner of the Golden Boot, scoring 6 goals and sharing the prize with Hristo Stoichkov. Netting more goals than the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann, Romario and Roberto Baggio, Ibrox fans were full of hope when Salenko arrived. Instead of flourishing in a 1995 Rangers squad which created a whole host of chances, the Russian didn't settle. In later years after leaving Glasgow Rangers, Salenko remarked that the weather was horrible. This amused a lot of Gers fans, because the forward was from Leningrad, but he was likely spoiled by a previous spell at Valencia in Spain. Scoring 7 goals during his time in Glasgow, Oleg Salenko couldn't wait to leave, and joined Istanbulspor of Turkey in rapid order. Few fans were sad to see him go, but Salenko didn't seem to care what anyone thought, he simply wanted out. It seems that hooking up with Rangers was viewed as a mistake by the Russian.
