Aston Villa's signing of Barcelona winger Adama Traore in 2015 turned plenty of heads, as much for Traore's decision to leave Camp Nou for Birmingham as for Villa paying £7m for a player who had made only four senior appearances.

The then-19-year-old would have had ambitions of becoming a Premier League star and there is still time for the youngster but he can only regret signing for the beleaguered club.

Traore has shown glimpses of his natural talent but that has not been enough to earn him a league start for a club in desperate need of inspiration in the final third. He was always considered as one for the future but if you can't break into Villa's team this season, then you never will.

He has also been set back by injury but there is a feeling that his time at Villa is already coming to an end. There have been reports that no relegation clause was inserted into his contract and Villa will look to sell but it won't be easy to part ways with a player who will command a sizeable transfer fee and possess high wage demands even without a Premier League start.

A loan move with Villa subsidising part of his wages seems the most likely option but at this stage of his career, Traore needs games and a place to settle. He may not get that any time soon.
