10 Players Who Probably Regret Joining Leeds United

6. Michael Duberry

For four years, Michael Duberry was a first-team regular at Chelsea but during the 1998-99 campaign, he faced increasing competition in the centre of the Blues defence after the arrival of Marcel Desailly.

To his credit, Duberry still made 25 appearances in the Premier League and 33 in all competitions but at the age of 24 and with ambitions still lingering to represent England, he decided to take his chances elsewhere.

A transfer to Leeds United was, in theory, a progressive career move with David O'Leary beginning to build something special at Elland Road and Duberry still made a positive impact upon his arrival by helping Leeds to three wins at the start of the 1999-00 season.

However, injury restricted him to 16 appearances in all competitions and the same occurred the following year after regaining his place in the team as he helped Leeds beat AC Milan in the Champions League before missing the remainder of the season.

Duberry would only regain his place in the side when players began to leave due to their severe financial issues and with the defender unable to settle alongside a number of different partners at centre-back, Leeds would be relegated.

Stoke City would become his new home soon afterwards but he would only ever play 21 more times in the top flight.
