3. Clint Dempsey
Ted S. Warren/AP/Press Association ImagesHaving previously played for New England Revolution in his native America's Major League Soccer, Clint Dempsey joined Fulham in 2007. He established himself as one of the best North Americans to have ever played in the English Premier League - no more so than in his final season, when he scored 17 league goals, was fourth in the FWA Footballer of the Year list behind the winner, Arsenal's Robin van Persie, and Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes, and became the first American to reach 50 goals in the Premier League. A move to Spurs followed, with the deal coming as something of a surprise to many, but Dempsey played 29 times in the Premier League in his only season at White Hart Lane, scoring 7 goals. However, in August of 2013, he was sold for around $9 million to Seattle Sounders back in Major League Soccer. While the pay-day was surely great, Dempsey was only 30 years old at the time and still more than capable of performing in the much better quality Premier League. Although he hasn't deteriorated as a player or lost his international place - indeed he's had a great World Cup 2014 - all this does is prove that he's better than Major League Soccer. Plus, the fact he went back to play for Fulham on loan in the Major League Soccer close season proves that he misses the Premier League and he should certainly still be playing a higher standard of football on a weekly basis.
