10 Players Who Probably Regretted Joining Arsenal
7. Sébastien Squillaci (2010-13)
After a pair of solid seasons at Sevilla, Sébastien Squillaci made the decision to move to Arsenal - a decision which the defender must doubtless now wish he could forget.
Arsenal parted with £4.5 million for the defender's services, which at the time seemed reasonable. The French international was believed to be the man who could tighten up the leaky defence which had cost Arsenal so dearly in the 2009/10 campaign. Initially paired with fellow new signing Laurent Koscielny as The Gunners' starting centre-back, a series of high profile blunders meant that Squillaci was quickly dropped to the bench. After the signing of Per Mertesacker the following summer meant that Squillaci was forgotten about entirely, used only as a substitute in League Cup games.
Squillaci's disastrous three seasons in north London ended when he was quietly shipped off to Bastia in 2013. Corsica was the perfect destination for Squillaci; he had thrice represented their 'national' team through his parentage, and spent three years on the island before being released last summer.
