10 Players Who Probably Regretted Joining Arsenal
5. Francis Jeffers (2001-04)
Francis Jeffers had it good at Everton: not only was he a regular goal scorer but he was adored by the Toffees faithful. However, when Arsenal were willing to splash the cash to sign the so-called fox-in-the-box, Jeffers was more than willing to make the move to north London.
Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans were so confident that Jeffers would be the goal poacher to fill the void left by Ian Wright's departure a few years earlier that they were willing to spend £10 million to secure his services - still a huge fee at the time, making him one of the club's most expensive signings.
Sadly, Jeffers didn't live up to his promise, managing only four league goals between 2001-04. Injury and poor form meant that he was forced out of the side by Thierry Henry and Sylvian Wiltord, and was left out of the squads that won the FA Cup in 2002 and 2003. An incredibly frustrated Jeffers made his final appearance for Arsenal in the 2003 FA Community Shield where he came on as a substitute only to get sent off. The former Evertonian never again looked like the same player who Arsenal spent all that money on, and ended his career at Accrington Stanley in 2013 after spells in Malta and New South Wales.
