If you needed proof that Clive Allen was resentful and bitter towards the incredibly brief stint he spent at Arsenal, you just need to look to the fact that during his assistant managerial stint at Spurs, he sniped at Arsene Wenger in the press, calling him €"two-bob"€.

Allen, the son of legendary Spurs forward Les Allen, arguably had the wrong DNA to be a success at Highbury, but no-one could have predicted quite how flat his time at Arsenal would be. The north Londoners paid an incredible £1.25 million for the striker who had been a prolific goalscorer for QPR, but would ultimately release him after just three pre-season games. Without ever appearing in a competitive match, Allen was sent to Crystal Palace in exchange for Kenny Sansom. This episode was extremely embarrassing for the forward and would prove to be the low point in a long, successful career.

Allen went on to spend his best years at Tottenham Hotspur, where he probably believed he should have been all along.
