The man with the biggest calves in the Premier League has come close to joining Liverpool on two separate occasions. The Alpine Messi was set to move to Anfield in 2014 but Bayern Munich allegedly blocked the move.

The following January, as Brendan Rodgers looked to add flair to his midfield (the Welsh Pirlo Joe Allen was clearly not enough), the Reds made another approach to sign the Swiss winger but he rejected them, opting to join Inter on a six-month loan deal instead.

Speaking to Swiss publication Blick, he said, "I had a lot of options, very lucrative offers... but I just felt that Inter did most to get me. My gut feeling was with Inter."

He would end up at Stoke City before 2015 was out.
