10 Players Who Rejected Liverpool
4. Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan being linked with Liverpool over the summer of 2013 was almost as talked about as a Brit winning Wimbledon (when Andy Murray wins, he's British). He'd won three consecutive league titles at Shakhtar Donetsk, scoring 38 goals in 72 appearances.
Reds manager Rodgers was a keen admirer of the Armenian and wanted to make him a marquee signing, but Mkhitaryan was worried that a move to a club with the stature of Liverpool would be too big, too soon.
In the midst of Rodgers trying to convince him otherwise, Jurgen Klopp (then Borussia Dortmund manager) paid Mkhitaryan a visit in person, which swayed the midfielder and sealed his transfer to the German club instead.
