His form for Southampton had earned him rave reviews and this convinced United to splash in excess of £25m on the midfielder, who it was hoped would bring some steel and quality to a lightweight midfield at the time.

However, Schneiderlin seemed to struggle with the pressure of playing under the Old Trafford spotlight, and among a team which was struggling in general under Louis Van Gaal, he never found his best form.

The club swiftly moved him on after less than two years in Manchester, and he is now a regualr in the middle of the park for Everton.

The Frenchman will no doubt look back on his time with English football's biggest club as disappointing, but like so many in this list, it hasn't stopped him having an excellent career in the game.
