The hype train hasn't exactly been blowing full steam ahead for the Three Lions this year, but fans remain cautiously optimistic that England might do well. Recent friendly results and the emergence of some exciting young talent certainly give us reasons to smile, but in all likelihood, there's little chance of England making it much further than the quarter finals.

England's recent history at World Cups is relatively poor, making it to the quarter finals in 2002 and 2006, the round of 16 in 2010 and not even getting out of the group in 2014. The team have a knack for doing well against smaller sides but often struggle as soon as they come up against one of the big teams.

This year, the draw was relatively kind to the Three Lions, who can expect to qualify from a group featuring Tunisia, Panama, and Belgium. In the knockout round, they'll likely play against Poland or Colombia and could make it to the quarter finals. At that point, logic dictates that they'd come up against the likes of Germany and Brazil, and logic continues to dictate that they'd probably lose. Still, a top 8 finish wouldn't be too bad from an English perspective.
