Though he made just short of 80 appearances for Manchester United and was considered a homegrown replacement for Paul Scholes by Sir Alex Ferguson, Tom Cleverley is often the victim of the 'overrated' label dished out by football fans. Though he has 13 England caps and looked promising as a youngster at Old Trafford, Cleverley was loaned out to Aston Villa last season, and was allowed to leave Manchester for free this summer.

Having secured a move to Everton and seemingly being very much part of Roberto Martinez's plans, Tom Cleverley has an opportunity to change the opinions of those who see him as nothing more than average. Can he compete with Gareth Barry and James McCarthy for a starting position throughout the season? Well that remains to be seen.
