When wDi Canio was in charge, Sunderland improved in terms of fitness and in terms of lasting until the last minutes of games but the results never followed under the crazy Italian. What has developed under the guidance of Gus Poyet is not only better fitness but also the winning mentality that is always crucial to maintaining a position in the Premier League. Maybe the miracle run of staying up with only six games remaining has changed the way the side approach and end games and this was certainly noticeable at the Hawthorns last weekend. The goal scorer Seb Larsson even admitted that those were the type of games we would have lost last season but a new mentality and determination managed to grab a late equaliser for something to build on against Man Utd. Hopefully Sunderland won't need to rely on last minute fitness and hope this coming weekend but it is always nice to know the side always feel confident on the pitch and are moving away from the bad attitudes we have seen over many previous campaigns.
