10 Reasons The Home Internationals Need To Return

6. Atmosphere

Speaking of meaningless friendlies, one of the most excruciating factors of these games is how dead the stadiums are. Whether its Wembley, the home of one of foreign footballs elite or that of a minnow, the audible experience is normally as devoid of emotion as the visual. It's bad enough when we have to sit and listen to the commentators and pundits try to make it seem as if a worthless friendly will have some long term effect on the future of a team, but this is made all the more difficult when they routinely highlight the apparently great support that the team is receiving, most probably with the backdrop of the England band trying to generate an atmosphere that simply isn't there. This lack of an atmosphere does not represent the kind of support that the team receives in a competitive format, whether you are English Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish we all like to get behind our teams and as much as we may complain in the build up too and immediate aftermath of a game, when it comes match time the fans are behind the side from the first whistle to the last. Yet when it comes to friendlies the atmosphere is far more reserved for when very simple reason, they do not matter. This would not be the case with the Home Internationals, the British may be a reserved people but if you pit us against each other then that will go right out of the window. We will try to out do the opposition both on the pitch and in the stands and the importance of the occasion will be reflected by the noise coming form the terraces.
