At the beginning of 2013, everything started going wrong for Iker Casillas. Perhaps he should've seen it coming. After all, a man must begin to wonder if, following the 4-year high he went through between 2008-2012, during which he: became club and country captain, lifted the World Cup and TWO European Championships, a league title and a Copa del Rey and, most importantly, landed Sara Carbonero, there might just be a low to follow this amazing high! Then things began to fall apart. Mourinho dropped him from the first team and signed Diego Lopez who has since taken his place. He got injured when he was trying to break back into the team. Spain were ripped apart by Brazil in the 2013 Confederations Cup final (more on that in a second), he found himself the captain of his own team on the bench and when he returned to prominence in the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final, made a mistake that was within 90 seconds of costing his side it all. No wonder he kissed Sergio Ramos! Casillas will captain the Spanish national side once again in Brazil and finds himself with an opportunity to steady the ship. A series of trademark performances from one of this generation's best keepers could see him reinstalled back as the No.1 in the Real Madrid team, where he is 68 appearances away from breaking the only record he has left to claim: Real Madrid's all-time appearance record. This is Casillas' best chance to erase the blip of the last 16 months and return back to the summit of the game.
