Managers usually have a few favourites that they depend on during their career. For Jose Mourinho, he has a habit of recycling footballers, having worked with the likes of Samuel Etoo, Paulo Ferreira and Lassano Diarra at two different clubs, but none more so than Ricardo Carvalho. Having won nine trophies together at FC Porto, they would enjoy further success in west London, winning adding six more pieces of silverware to the trophy cabinet before the Portuguese coach was inexplicably shown his marching orders. While he was understandably revered and held in such high esteem by the Chelsea support, Mourinho would still act as a ghost of managers past, using his relationship bonds with the squad to entice them to both Inter Milan and Real Madrid. While efforts to sign Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba just about failed, Mourinho would finally get his wish in haunting his former employers, signing his former trusty centre-half. It came as a blow to the club, as he had proved himself to be a solid performer for the club during his six seasons at Stamford Bridge, but when Real Madrid registered an interest, there was no way Chelsea could have kept him from reuniting with his former boss.
