8. Tim Boetsch vs. Yushin Okami - UFC 144
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vin7wnjLECk The betting odds come into play once again. Yushin Okami was coming off a demoralizing title loss to Anderson Silva. He never could properly close the distance or impose his will. Silva picked him apart and finished him with relative ease. After having to fight Silva in Brazil, the UFC gave him the opportunity to fight in his home country of Japan. He was a -450 favorite against Tim Boetsch. Despite being considered as gritty as they come, Boetsch's speed and explosiveness are limited due to his stocky frame. In the first two rounds, Okami was in complete control. He was throwing more strikes than usual, which was refreshing. It wasn't his typical game plan of overpowering his opponent against the cage to either take them down or control them. He was picking Boetsch apart with his jab early on. Eventually he went back to his bread-and-butter by closing the distance and taking Boetsch to the ground. He secured full mount and couldn't have looked more dominant. Then the third round began and we didn't see Okami be the aggressor. We saw him become more conservative, while Boetsch was going for broke being two rounds down. A few right hands in the clinch, followed by another counter right hand and Okami was staggered. A right head kick connected, then Boetsch started landing devastating uppercuts against the cage. Okami couldn't recover and eventually was left unconscious. For him not to continue being the aggressor and allow himself to get caught like that was unbelievable. It was one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history.
