10 Smallest Teams To Play In The Football League

7. Loughborough FC

One of the stories of the 2015-16 season has been Leicester City's surprise title challenge. Sadly, fellow Leicestershire side Loughborough's stint in the Football League was not accompanied with anywhere near the same success. In five seasons of play, Loughborough's greatest accomplishment was a 12th place finish in the Second Division during 1895-96. The 1899-1900 Loughborough season would go down in history as one of the worst in the history of the Football League. A 2-1 victory over Burton Swifts would be their only victory during a season in which they lost every single game away from home, amassing 8 points with a goal difference of -82. The humiliation of 1900 resulted in Loughborough losing their status as a Football League club, disbanding soon after. Currently Loughborough Dynamo, the highest non-league team in the town play in the 8th level of the footballing pyramid.
