10 Strangest Ever Manchester United Signings

6. Karel Poborsky

Matthew Ashton/EMPICS SportMatthew Ashton/EMPICS SportKarel Poborsky might have made it at Manchester United if there was no such thing as David Beckham. Poborsky was one of the stand-out performers at Euro 96 and even had a goal named after him - 'The Poborský-lob' - named in honour of the winger's chip past goalkeeper Vítor Baía in a match between Portugal and the Czech Republic. Unfortunately it would be another chip that would be his undoing - David Beckham's halfway line goal vs Wimbledon barely a month after Poborsky had officially signed for United. The emergence of Golden Balls means Poborsky never really got the chance to strut his stuff at Old Trafford and he lasted just a year-and-a-half at the club - not because he wasn't any good, simply because he was never needed to begin with. Instead, Poborsky will be remembered for his awful hairstyle - Beckham had better fashion sense, too.
