4. Ossie Ardiles
Sport and General/S&> and Barratts/EMPICS SportOn a similar note to Jurgen Klinsmann, Ardiles' signature was weird for all the right reasons. Alongside his fellow countryman, Ricky Villa (who we won't include on his own on this list for the purposes of avoiding repetition), Ossie Ardiles was brought to Spurs in 1978. What made this double signing weird was the fact that they had just won a World Cup with Argentina and were, therefore, on top of the world and in demand - but they chose Spurs, a team who had just been promoted to the top flight, having finished third in the old Second Division the season before. This is the equivalent of Argentina winning the current World Cup and Lionel Messi going on to sign for Leicester City next season. It was an incredible acquisition for Spurs and their Argentinian duo would go on to bring success to White Hart Lane, with both men winning the 1981 FA Cup and Ardiles winning the UEFA Cup in 1984 with the club. They are now both members of Tottenham Hotspur's Hall of Fame.
