10 Talking Points From The First Round Of World Cup 2018 Group Games

1. The Fans

As usual, the fans have been magnificent at the World Cup so far. Going to a World Cup game is a huge financial and logistical undertaking for many of these people, so naturally they want to make the most of it. They have.

Peru's fans, in particular, really stood out during their opening clash with Denmark. They filled the stadium and were in fine voice as they watched their team perform admirably despite falling to an unlucky 1-0 defeat in the end, and some of the Peruvian fans' stories of how they made it to the World Cup have been inspiring to hear.

After the Colombia vs. Japan and Poland vs. Senegal Group H clashes, both Japanese and Senegalese fans were seen taking time to clean up the stadiums before making their way to the exits, and plenty of acts of kindness and respect have been shared since the tournament began.

Even those who didn't make it to Russia have been celebrating in some special ways. The vibrations caused by Mexican fans jumping up and down when Hirving Lozano scored against Germany were actually picked up by earthquake-detecting seismometers, and all of these examples show just how wonderful the World Cup can be at bringing people together and spreading joy around the globe.
